BOY SCOUTS MADE £l5O DURING THE “808 A JOB WEEK”

During April just on £7,000 was raised by voluntary part time workers for the Boy Scout Movement in New Zealand. Of this figure £l5O was raised by Bay of Plenty units andi £IOO was sent to Dominion

headquarters. The target set was £5,000, or 5s per head, but the final figure far exceeded expectations. Bay of Plenty scouting and cub units worked enthusiastically to raise their portion of the money and their efforts in the “bob a job” week not only brought in the funds but also helped many people to complete odd jobs about their properties. A percentage of the money earned is earmarked for National Dominion funds, but most of the money is retained in each locality for the benefit of the respective county, district or group scout funds. During the drive approximately 100,000 jobs of work were carried out, some being quite big jobs, and some extremely small, but overall, the cubs and scouts prepared to work for their own funds, instead of merely looking for donations, and earned not only cash for the movement, but a generous slice of goodwill.

Difficulty still exists in the scouting movement of finding suitable adult supervision, as instructors and active scouts and cub officers in the Bay of Plenty. Any help from the public would be of great assistance in permitting the scout movement expand further in the district.
