Fine Music By N.Z. Pianist Was Treat For School

(An appreciation) 'Of the many educational aids, which have appeared in recent years, none can be more Apopular than that provided by the Community Arts Service, which last week brought the talented New Zealand pianist, Miss Cara Hall, to Whakatane. On Wednesday afternoon Miss Hall played to the pupils of the High School a programme of music specially chosen for schools, captivating her youthful audience by her delightful playing, her charm/ of manner and her apt and helpful explanation. For most of those present this was their first experience of a pianoforte recital and no more happy choice of artist could have

been made for an introduction to such music. ! That appreciation comes more easily through familiarity was proved by the murmur of pleasure which greeted such a favourite as Bach's lovely Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, stressing as this did the claims of music within school syllabus. The ease with which young people can enjoy the “moderns” ( was illustrated in the round of applause which greeted Debussy’s entertaining Fireworks, superbly played by Miss Hall. „ Those responsible for the concert must surely feel encouraged by the s’Oung people’s wholehearted pleasure and appreciation of fine music finely presented.
