Removal Of Shell At Mount Maunganui Is Causing Concern
Unauthorised removal of shell from the beach has been causing the Mount Maunganui Domain Board concern and it has decided to forward information to the Marine Department with a view to prosecuting the offender. At a previous meeting of the board, Mr A. McFai’lane drew attention to the fact that a carrier had been seen removing shell from the beach near Mount Maunganui. When approached, he had stated that he had obtained authority to do so “from a source higher up” and had declined to discontinue removing the shell. Subsequently the board had been notified by the Marine Department that no permission had been granted.
