Descendant Of Shakespeare’s Sister At Mount Maunganui
Although no less an authority than the assistant editor of Debrett’s “Poerage” (Mr P. W. MontagueSmith) says it is remarkable that the Harts, the only near surviving relatives of William Shakespeare, should have passed into oblivion within 50 years of leaving Stratford, that oblivion does not apply in New Zealand, where the name of Hart is inextricably meshed with early colonisation (says the Evening Post). The family has a direct link with Tauranga since one member Mr L. B. Hart, lives at Mount Maunganuit In point of fact, several descendants of William Shakespeare’s sister Joan, are living in New Zealand.
