OHOPE PROGRESS LEAGUE NEEDS MORE SUPPORT

Only eleven people attended a general meeting of the Ohope Progress League called on Monday night for the purpose of furthering plans for the financing of the community centre hall, for this year’s carnival and for other summer activities. Considering that the Progress League is the only body that works for the good of the beach as a whole, always ready to support and help any constructive move in that direction by any body, the conveners thought the attendance regrettably poor. Therefore, it Was decided that the best thing to do was to try to arouse more interest before making any decision, and to convene another meeting for the evening of October 25. For the benefit of newcomers to the beach, and others who might not realise it, it has been pointed out by the executive of the League that it is an organisation of beach residents, not necessarily ratepayers, and everyone who has an interest in Ohope and its progress will be welcomed as an active member.

Already the hall finance project has made some progress. There is about £4OO in hand, and it is hoped that the art union being promoted now will raise another £SOO or more.
