Councillor Suggests “Candle Light Hour”

A candle light hour in Whakatane homes each night with all lights turned off might help to lower power consumption in the borough, Cr R. S.' Buttimore suggested to this week’s meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. He thought that if all residents could be urged to keep up their present saving and also adopt one hour each night when only candles would be used for lighting he considered that consumption might be able to be lowered.

Cr Buttimore said that if a campaign were started he felt sure that the majority of people at Whakatane would support it.
