AUSTRALIAN TEAM MAY PLAY RUGBY AT WHAKATANE

Providing the New Zealand Rugby Union agrees to the recommendation of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union the match between Australia and the Bay will be played at Whakatane on August 20. This was decided by the executive of the Bay of Plenty Union last week. There are several reasons for wanting the game at Whakatane, the chief being that it is the most central town. With the new ground almost completed members agreed that Whakatane would be more convenient for most people in the Bay of Plenty. As a curtain raiser to the Australian match a game is to be arrange for the Bay of Plenty junior representatives. Other representative games for the season were finalised with games for both seniors and juniors against Waikato at Cambridge. The proposed tour of the East Coast will be undertaken with games against the East Coast and Poverty Bay. The team will be away for a week. To tour the Bay of Plenty Auckland Colts are being invited to play three matches 'in the district against combined sub-unions. Pinal arrangements for these fixtures have yet to be completed. The tour will be from September 3 to 10.
