RUGBY FOOTBALL PRIMARY SCHOOL PLAYERS As the Thames Valley team which was to have played Bay of Plenty as a curtain raiser to the Maori All Black v Bay of Plenty match at Tauranga on Wednesday next is not now available a match will be played between teams from the Eastern Bay (Whakatane and Opotiki) and Western Bay (Rotorua and Tauranga).

Following are the players who have been selected:—-

Eastern Bay: Spring (Whakatane), Black, Wi Hiko (Opotiki), Dredge, Porter, Armstrong (Whakatane), Hudson (Opotiki), Whittle (Whakatane), Tai, S. UNITED SENIORS TEAM FOR SATURDAY The following players will represent United against Wairaka at the Domain on Saturday. The team is asked to assemble at the A. and P. shed at 2 p.m. Boon, McKenzie, McGougan, Hunt Cave, Morpeth, Debreceny, Shapley, Butler, Green, L. Stewart, Wilson, Gardiner, De Lacey, Cassidy, Goile.

THE SHALFOON SHIELD LAST CHALLENGE GAME The Rangitaiki Juniors will meet the final challengers for the season at Matata tomorrow. This will be in the form of a strong Te Puke side, representing the Union which already holds the Hurinui Apanui Shield in the senior grade. The match will be watched with - the keenest interest.

Rangitaiki juniors, have this year risen to greater heights than in many years past. Annexing the trophy last year they have so far withstood all challenges and tomorrow will tell the story as to whether they will retain it till next year. Spectators generally have noted the improved form of Rugby put up by the juniors and for this reason particularly good gates have been realised. Tomorrow’s game should be no exception. The Rangitaiki team will be the same as last week. BASKETBALL WHAKATANE ASSOCIATION GAMES FOR SATURDAY The following games will be played on Saturday at the Whakatane Basketball courts: — 1.30 p.m.:. ON THE LINKS WHAKATANE MEN’S CLUB The Four Ball Bogey competition played last Saturday resulted in a win for N. Ducker and J. White with a splendid card of 8 up. Other scores were: N. Reynolds and N. Luxton: Players not engaged in the cup finals on Saturday will play a Stableford competition in single formation. Local Placing Rule The local rule permitting placing the ball on the fairway within one foot of where it came to rest will be extended until further notice. Naming Competition With a view to selecting a name for each hole on the course members are asked to send their suggestions to the secretary together with an entrance fee of sixpence. TE TEKO MEN’S CLUB PLAY FOR SUNDAY The finals of the Senior and Intermediate Championship will be played on Sunday, September 7. ' The first round of the Junior Championship will be played as follows: Ranson a bye; Haultain plays Nation; Housham plays Goodwin; Latimer plays Johnston.
