“Balloon Busters” With the appearance of balloons on the market a new sport appears to have developed among the boys of Whakatane. This consists of making a small “shang” with which .to fire pins and other articles at balloons in an effort to burst them. The Rodeo Show. 'Lance Skuthorpe’s popular Rodeo and grand circus show opened -a return season to Whakatane last evening when a large crowd enjoyed a tip-top programme of first class turns. The Rodeo will be run for two more days, today and Saturday including a special children’s show on Saturday afternoon. August Rainfall The total rainfall for August as recorded on the Rangitaiki Plains was 6.22 inches which fell on 16 dais. The greatest individual fall was recorded on the 25th with 3 inches. The total for the year to date is 42.72 inches as against 38.94 inches for a similar periodjast year. The fall recorded for August, 1946, was 6.04 inches.
