SHOW TROPHIES WANTED
THERE is a singular shortage of trophies for competition in the Whakatane Agricultural and Pastoral Show, and this fact has given rise to considerable concern in that it is recognised that trophies and cups for annual events are practically an essential to the success of all established agricultural exhibitions. In most cases, Show Associations have a surfeit of trophies, but such is not the case in Whakatane, though-it is known that many leading citizens and farmers have from time to time expressed their intention of donating • them either from a personal interst point of view or as a memorial to a friend or relative. With the return of peace, the Show Executive is desirous of brightening up its sectional classes. More trophies are needed to do this and persons who feel moved to assist forward the show, which is the district’s finest advertisement bar none, are invited to give the matter active thought, right now in order that the Annual Show early next year may be one of the most attractive on record. ” There are already numerous ‘special prizes’ and several medals in the existing list of awards, but in reality the Whakatane Show has never carried many trop-
hies that can ensure a continuity of interest and competition. Cups, shields or suitable tokens should today be worked into the Heavy Horse Section, Ring Events, Jersey, Friesian, Calf Classes and Sheep and Poultry Classes with tremendous advantage. Trophies need not necessarily be ornate or expensive, providing they suggest an interest for the competitors and maintain the status of an event or a class. Here is an open invitation and an opportunity to assist forward Whakatane’s Show. We suggest in all sincerity that the scheme should be fostered in the town by the Chamber of Commerce, and in the country by the Farmers’ Union. A wealthy district such as ours, now that the need is known should not long see the Show wanting in trophies.
