CALEDONIAN DANCE

CAMPBELL EVENING SATURDAY NIGHT DANCE A very successful evening was put on by the Campbell Clan of the Young Caledonians in the Caledonian Hall on Saturday. Admittance was by invitation and there was a good crowd present. Horry Waite at the piano was ably assisted by willing helpers on the drunks. The evening commenced with the piping in of Geo. Paterson, chief of the Campbells, Mr - D. Anderson, Chief of the senior Society, and Mr W. Abbott, Chief of the Young Caledonians.

Mr R. King made a capable M.C and kept things going with a swing from start to finish. Miss Valerie Brown danced a Sailors’ Hornpipe. Mr Geo. Paterson gave his reasons for wearing a kilt, accompanied at the piano by his father. As an encore number he chose “Forty-Two Shillings a Bottle.” The audience was invited to join in the chorus and this they did. . The O’Rourke brothers gave two numbers, “Story of Two Cigarettes” and “I Love You.”

Miss Margot McLeod, daughter of the Chief of the Caledonian Society, in Te Aroha, who is visiting Whakatane was welcomed by Mr W. A. Abbott.

Mr Howat, a former chief of the Whakatane Society, and a former member of the Campbell Clan in Scotland, spoke.
