ENGLISH GRATITUDE

GARMENTS FROM GALWAY GUILD WORK OF LOCAL BRANCH Over the period of the war years and since, the local branch of the Lady Galway Guild has been indefatigueable in its efforts to relieve the distress in the larger English cities by despatching clothing and relief materials at regular intervals. Cases of carefully selected and cleaned second hand clothing have been despatched, and since the change-over to the parcel system no less than 1500 garments have been sent.

Mrs F. Moran who has been the mainstay of the movement throughout has received yet another letter of deep appreciation from the Eastern section of London known as the Canning Town Women’s Settlement. The message is from Warden M. Cowan-Smith and reads as under:—

“We are very grateful to you and the members of the Lady Galway Guild for all the useful parcels you have sent. Clothing is so useful as you can imagine and we can easily dispose of all the garments you can send. As for SOAP, this gift would indeed be a Godsend. It is almost impossible for our people here to obtain enough. We know many large families who would be delighted with a cake of soap. ’ You mention that one of your ladies riiay be coming over here and we should be pleased to welcome her and give her some idea of the work the settlement does. We are. carrying out our plans for the future development of the work but of course it is slow work after all the difficult times we have . been through owing to the war and extensive bombing.

One of our activities which I’m sure would interest you is our toddlers department in the garden. The children are brought by their mothers and are well looked after while mother goes shopping. There is a paddling pool for them and a sand pit and many delightful toys. Again thanking you for all your interest and help.”
