PHILATELY
WHAKATANE CLUB MEETS . - >• There was an excellent attendance . at the February meeting of the Whakatane Philatelic Society last Tuesday evening. The president, Mr H. O. Garaway, j occupied the chair and gave an exhibition of ‘first day covers’ from ' all parts of the world. Some of these dated back to the Boer War while others had been carried by the, Graf Zeppelin in its epoch-mak-
ing world trip. The exhibition creat- # . ed the greatest interest. The competition was in the hands ' of Mr Warren Kirk, and provided. 1 I another point of concentration on stamp history. The selection of . ‘Quislings’ head on a Norwegian';,'? stamp for identification was- d; shrewd move which provided general surprise. v Several collections were on exhibition and the evening concluded ■ with a light supper served by the:- * ladies.
