JUSTICE OF PEACE ASSN.

SUCCESSFUL YEAR’S WORK MEETING IN TAURANGA Another successful year in the annals of the Bay of Plenty Justices of the Peace Association was registered at the eighth annual -general meeting held in Tauranga recently. The Hon. B. C. Robins, M.L.C., presided over a good attendance of members and in reviewing the work of the association during the last 12 months paid a tribute to the members, who now numbered 36 and stated that the balance sheet showed a healthy financial position with no creditors and a credit balance of £2O 10s 9d.

Apologies, for non-attendance were received from Justices irom Tauranga, 'Opotiki, Katikati and Tauriko. New members elected were Mesdames A. E. Faulkner, and L. McKenna and Messrs. T. 11. Edmondson, formerly of Wellington and H. Granger, Te Puke. At the request of the president, members stood in silence as a tribute to Messrs. G. H. Ollard (Tauranga), F. Bostock (Te Puke) and G. A. Brabant (Whakatane), all foundation members of . the Association, who had passed away during the year. Minutes of the previous annual general meeting were read and confirmde.

The annual subscription was fixed at 10/- per member and reports were received from Whakatane and Opotiki members and -suggestions tabled for incorporating Rotorua Justices into the association.

Mr L. D. Lees,. of Tauranga, addressed the meeting on matters which had been the occasion of a certain amount of controversy during the year and was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation. Acting-Sergeant Hughes, of Rotorua, expressed the thanks of the Police Department to the association and paid a tribute to the work done by Justices of the Peace generally. Votes of thanks were accorded to the Registrar, Mr J. B. McKinney, the Hon. Auditor, Mr. E. Plumer Mountfort, to the press and to those who had provided the afternoon tea, which was a feature of the meeting. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr E. L. Walton, SM.; President, Hon. B. C. Robins, M.L.C.; Vice-pi'esi-dents, Messrs. E. P. Mountfort (Tauranga), S. S. Macdonald (Mt. Maunganui), C. S. Armstrong (Whakatane), H. Cuff (Te Puke), and G. S. Moody (Opotiki); Executive Committee, Messrs. S. Steele, P. Lumley, J. Mitchell, E. S. Hylton, A. B. Morton, P. S. Jensen, W. T. Teasy and C. T. McFarlane; Registrar, Mr J. M. McKinney; Hon. Auditor, Mr E. P. Mountfort; Delegate to annual conference, Mr B. C. Robins.
