POPULAR TEACHER FAREWELLED
A very enjoyable afternoon was spent at the Taneatua School recently when pupils, parents and friends gathered to pay tribute and bid farewell to Miss Nankivell who has resigned from the teaching profession after having been infant mistress at Taneatua for the past seven, years.
Proceedings opened with the presentation of a bouquet in scarlet tonings to Miss Nankivell by little Kay Mitchell while Pauline Davis presented a bouquet of pink flowers to Miss B. O’Brien.
The children then entertained with Christmas Carols, songs, dances and Maori action songs. At the conclusion of this portion of the programme Mr Oliver addressed the 16 boys and girls who were receiving their leaving certificates and these were presented by Mr Brown, Chairman of the School Committee. . Mr Oliver and Mr Brown thenmade eulogistic reference to the high standard of Miss Nankivell’s work as infant mistress and expressed their deep regret at the lossof her services. Mr Brown presented her with a cheque together with the good wishes of her pupils, their* parents and her friends. In her reply Miss Nankivell - returned thanks for the gift and said she’ had been very happy during her stay in Taneatua. She considered that everything necessary for a full and happy life was to be found in* Taneatua. Musical honours were then accorded the guest of honour. Ice cream was distributed to the children by. the elder boys, whilst the girls served a delicious afternoon tea to the guests. A pleasant afternoon concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
