PETROL INCREASE
COUPONS DOUBLE FACE VALUE
SAME BASIS AS BRITAIN
The Government has decided that from August 1 the monthly petrol allowance for motorists would be double the face value of the cou-pon-s said the Minister of Supply ? the Hon. D. Sullivan, over the weekend. This meant he said that the fol- > ' lowing amounts would be available for August and subsequent months: Cars over 14.5 horse-power eight gallons; over 9.5 horse-power and up to 14.5 horse-power ? six gallons; up to 9.5 fohr gallons; motor -cycles two gallons. The Minister said these rations would place private motorists in New Zealand on a similar basis- to private motorists in the United Kingdom and allow for some 120 miles running monthly. In addition, there would be some slight relaxation for taxis, passenger services and goods services. Commenting on the general policy to be followed the Minister said that all special licenses for four gallons or less monthly would be cancelled but if anyone felt he required additional petrol for essential purposes his case would be considered on application to the district oil fuel controller.
