PETROL LICENSES
REVIEW BY COMMITTEE
THE WHAKATANE DISTRICT
A review of all petrol licenses held by private car owners for business imrposcs in the Whakatane district, is being conducted by the Oil Fuel Committee for the purposes of ascertaining if possible any abuses of the regulations among licenseholders. The seriousness of the petrol position. in New Zealand was emphasised by the Secretary of. the Wanganui Primary Producers' Council, Mr A. R. Donaldson, recently. He said that reserves of petrol in New Zeiali land were being reduced considerably. "The position is very serious, and it. is quite uncertain when the next supplies will come to. hand," he. said. "All Fuel Advisory Committees in. the Dominion are reviewing business and private; car licenses with a view to making a reduction where possible/' The committees were aware of abuses in certain cases. The regulations Were emphatic that something must be done to prevent the wastage of petrol. "This must be done urgently" lfe, said, "and many people are got ing to feel, hurt, but there is no other way out. Primary producers will be the last to be touched."
