8 O'CLOCK CLUB

INVITATION DANCE The first invitation dance to be held by the 8 o'clock club in Wha-t----katane took place on Wednesday evening, a fair percentage of the youth of the community being present. The floor was in very good condition, while the music supplied by a local orchestra was first-class. Mr Bill Howat held his usual position as M.C. and kept the dance moving with never a dull moment from start to finish. During the evening, an exhibition modern waltz was danced by two couples, Miss Pam King and Mr Bill Howat, and Miss Betty Heaslip and Mr Bob Byrne, the dimmed lights providing an excellent atmosphere. The effectiveness and popularity of this item was amply monstrated by the applause which greeted its conclusion, and an encore, by special request, was put on later in the evening. Another popular item was the Sailors' Hornpipe danced by Miss Isobel Martin. Towards the close, a light supper was served and proved very popular with the crowd who had danced themselves to the. state where refreshment was more than welcome. During the supper interval, Mr S.
