, MRS W. I. MOORE (Contributed by a Rifleman) There passed away at the Whakatane Hospital on June 7th Mrs 1 Wil-A lie Moore, of Thornton,, at. the early age of 30 years. She was the eldest daughter of Mrs L. Davies, of Taneatua. She was married to Mr Willie Moore in 1927 and came to Thornton and quickly identified herself with the Rangitaiki Defence Rifle Club which was formed that year. She fired the first shot on the. rifle range registering a bullseye. She followed up the sport and soon become one of the leading rifle shots in the. Bay of Plenty. At shield matches held annually for teams from Bay of Plenty clubs, she. topped the score on one occasion ' an honour "of which any one could feel justly proud. On another oc- ' casion she tied for the grand aggregate for the championship of the Rangitaiki Defence Rifle Club and lost by one point after an exciting shoot off. She was. also runner-up for the Championship Belt, open to all riflemen in the" Bay and was the < undisputed champion lady rifle shot in the Bay of Plenty. It would be ] no exaggeration to say she was one < of the best women shots in the Do- , minion. She was also* an expert horse woman in her younger days. The late Mrs Moore has two brothers in the Forces overseas one in the Middle East and the other just returned from the Pacific. She will live long in the memory of riflemen throughout the Bay of Plenty and the. Auckland Province, ] and those of us who were privileged to, know her regarded her friendship as a privilege. She will be ] sadly missed and deeply mourned in the home of her husband and young family of four girls and two boys, for whom the sympathy of the whole community goes out in their sudden loss.
