WEDDING BELLS

SIGNAL —RATY

A w T edding of considerable local interest took place at the Presby-* terian Church, Edgecumbe, on Wednesday, August 6, when Doris Mabel, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J.. A Baty, of Awakeri, was married to Douglas Ried, eldest son of Mr and Mrs D. C. Signal, of The ceremony Avas performed by the Rev. J. H. Starnes.

The bride who was attired in ® very pretty frock of teal-blue, with hat to match, carried a bouquet of daphne and stock, and looked verjf charming as she entered the church escorted by her father.

She was attended by two brides* maids, her sister, Miss Mildred Baty, wearing Airforce Blue, and Miss Rose Cropp in dove-grey. Their bouquets were composed of yellow daffodils.

The duties of best man were efficiently performed by Mr R. V. Signal (R.N.Z.A.F.), brother of tbb bridegroom. Mar W. Johns acted as

groomsman

The reception was held in tha Awakeri Hall, where the guests were received by the parents of both bride ■ind bridegroom. The breakfast provided was attended! by over 10(K

guests, among whom were Mrs V?k F. Baty, grandmother, and Mrs M.. Foote, grand aunt of the bride—both from Gisborne. The beautifully) decorated three-tier wedding cake, having been cut by the bride assisted by Ihe bridegroom, a lengthy toaat list was honoured, the duties or toastmaster being ably carried out by the Rev. Starnes.
