FIRST THREE YEAR OLD

Noko, Avinner of the HadloAV Hurdles at the Waimate meeting, has the distinction of being the first three year old to Avin over hurdles in Ncav Zealand.

PRIZE MONEY INCREASED

The AVanganui Jockey Club which registered a good financial season, has decided to increase the stake money in the Wanganui Guineas from £350 to £500. WILL SOON BE READY Vcrulam, now trained at Ellerslic by H. showed speed at ParaAvai last Aveek, but was, detrimentally affected by the muddy track. If the going at Ellerslic this; week is reasonably good she Avill make a much better showing, and now a four year old should have a successful season. KING REY'S PERFORMANCE, The veteran King Rey's performance in the Jumpers' Flat, one mile nnd a half at Riccarton Avith 12.0. stamps the Te Puke OAA'ned thoroughbred as still one of the very best handicap horses in commission in this Dominion. He conceded the Avinner, Pekoe, no less than 291bs in Aveight and of the candidates 421bs. Certainly the investors at the meeting were not especially partial to his chance, for he started ninth favourite on the machine that registers, the figures. RACING THRILLS At RamV\A'ick on Saturday the tVeAA r Zealand champions Beau Vite and Kindergarten are to meet ini the Warwick Farm Stakes. The Sydney trainer of the first named ■says he is quite alright and Avill run a great race, while Bagbyi and Wiggins, trainer and rider respec* Itvely, state the Kincardine representative will be quite ready for the fray. Once again on "the other *side" it will be a case of NeAV eZaland providing the racing thrills.

PAKURANGA HUNT MEETING

The next meeting of interest will be that of the Pakuranga Hunt Club at Ellerslie on Saturday next* The acceptances denote good fields and keen contests throughout the afternoon should be assured., Tlie principal attraction in the programme will be the Pakuranga Hunt Cup 0f"~£575 and Cup £25. Run over three miles with similar obstacles as in the Great Northern Steeplechase, the event is causing ft wide interest. BRONZE BIRD DESTROYED The speedy filly Bronze Bird, \vhose chances for this season were being highly assessed, broke a leg last week and had to be destroyed.
