PRODUCTION DOUBLED
PLANS FOR SEASON
APPEAL FOR WORKERS
The cheese production of the Bay of Plenty is expected to be doubled as the result of successful negotiations between the farmers of the Whakatane and Rangitaiki districts and l the butter and! cheese factories. Production is planned to be in full swing in about two months.
This will be the result of the new cheese factory being established by the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company close to the Whakatane Paper Mills, while at the Waiinana and Opouriao factories double shift will be worked in place of the single shift system, which generally opex-
ates there.
1300 Tons of Butter Transferred'.
It is estimated that the transfer from butter to cheese production in the. Edgccumbc district by suppliers of the Rangitaiki factory will he equivalent to 1300 tons' of butter a year.
Between 40 and 50 men will be required for this work, stated Mr L. H. Armstrong, Placement Officer for the Bay of Plenty, this week in reminding those who had worked at cheese factories within the past five years of their obligations to register under the Cheese Industry "Regulation of Employment Order recently issued by Order-in-Council. There was also a need for unskilled labour, he stated. Every endeavour would be made to find accommodation for married workers and employment in the off season for all hands, Mr Armstrong concluded,
