OFFICIALLY OPENED
CEREMONY ON WEDNESDAY EVENING SPEECHES BY M.P.'s The Aveather unfortunately limited the attendance at the Winter Show last Wednesday evening when Mr A. G. Hultquist, M.P., formally declared the exhibition open, and congratulated one a.nd all on the splendid nature of the display. ''I under, stand" he said "that the entries iu all sections are well up on past yeans and I trust that the Show, in spite of the weather, will constitute a new record in every way." The President, Mr W. Sullivan, introduced the speakers about 7.30 p. m. Those who tendered their good wishes being Mr M. Williams M.P. for Ivaipoi; Mr F. W. Doidge, M.P for Tauranga, and His Worship the Mayor o Mr B. S. Barry. PRESIDENTS REMARKS ''We have followed the growing fashion of opening the show front the inside'' said Mr Sullivan. "This is chiefly on account of the weather, and we felt that you would be more comfortable being able to see the exhibits even if you had to wait till 7.30 for the official opening/' The entries he was pleased to say were all up to standard and he would like particularly to congratulate the Young Farmers Club on their display. The root croj'Js, this year eclipsed anything that had been seen at previous shows. He reminded his listeners of the Scottish programme on Thursday, and the Children's entertainment on Friday.
