Amethyst's Captain Decorated With D.S.O. By King

(Rec. 9.5 a.m.) London, Nov. 17. The King today met the men who manned the frigate Amethyst on the River Yangtse. He told them: "By your conduct you have shown that the old qualities which have sustained this country through the centuries are still alive'.' The officers and men of the Amethyst were formed up in the ballroom of Buckingham Palace,with the contingents of the other ships involved and some of the crew of the Royal Air Force flying boat which flew a doctor to the damaged frigate. The King, accompanied by the Queen, inspected the parade and presented awards for bravery in the action, including the Distinguished Service Order to Lieutenant Commander Kerans, R.N., the captain of the Amethyst.
