No Survivors When French Airliner Crashes in Flames On Peak In Azores
(Rec. 8.10 a.m.) London, Oct. 28 An Air France Constellation airliner crashed in flames early today on a peak of the Azores, on its way from Paris to New York, Messages from the Azores say that a rescue party has reached the wreckage and that of the 43 people cn board, no survivors had yet been found. Among the passengers was the former world middleweight boxing champion Marcel Cerdan. The Constellation was first sighted by searching aircraft on a mountaintop on an island 60 miles across the sea from the airfield at Santa Maria, where it was due early today. The last message received from the airliner was to the control tower at Santa Maria, saying it was going to land in five minutes. The control tower signalled back that the Constellation could fly in without instruments. ' There was no reply.
