"Workers Are Suffering At Hands Of Labour Governments"

Sir,—ls it any wonder that the workers are getting restive with their Labour Governments in different parrs of the world? Sir Stafford Cripps before leaving England for America recently, assured the workers that there would be no need for devaluation of the pound. When Sir Stafford returned he had turned a complete somersault. He told the workers that the pound had been devalued, the price of bread would go up. Wages were to be pegged and the workers would have to work harder and produce more. What a wonderful niece of work he had done on behalf of the workers! Is it any wonder bitter resentment is felt?. Mr Attlee has also ordered cuts in administrative departments which probably mean throwing a lot of employees out of work. Members of our Labour Government here in New Zealand have said on many occasions that wherever Britain goes we go. There may be a lot of truth in this and the workers should take this slogan as a warning as the present Government is adopting a lot of the principles that have got the British Government into so many difficulties nationalisation, ever increasing high administrative costs, expensive controls, restrictions and higher costs of production. In fact, the Labour Party in New Zealand has gone a good deal further to wreck this country than the British Government has done to wreck Britain. There are two Commissions sitting that are going to go a good deal further the Licensing Commission and Gaming Commission. The New Zealand Labour party is entering the liquor trade. It has bought several hotels and granted licences to several of its private hotels to sell liquor. This Licensing Committee is also hearing applications from every small town from the North Cape to the Bluff. Just imagine what a demoralising effect this is going to have on our younger generation growing up. This Government is also going to allow tote betting shops all over New Zealand. This means legalised gambling and drinking places all over New Zealand. May one ask how this legislation is going to benefit this country and where it is going to lead us? There is only one answer down the drain, It i, : : lime our Christian peopk-

churches, mothers and fathers took some action to save this beautiful country of ours from the menaces that are facing us. Workers are being misled. There is a “dust-up” coming here. Several strong labour leaders have resigned and several big unions have passed a motion of no confidence in the Minister of Labour. The workers have the weapon in their hands and it is to be hoped they use it at the coming election. Change the Government and save the workers from meeting the same fate as meted out to them by the British and Australian Governments. I “COMMONSENSE”
