PULP MILL PROJECT AT MURUPARA

COMBINATION OF STATE AND PRIVATE ENTERPRISE (P.A.) Rotorua, Oct. 27. The Murapara pulp mill project would be better managed if it were directed by a combination of Government and private enterprise and capital, said Mr W. Sulivan, National member for Bay of Plenty, in an address at Kaingaroa tonight. An audience of 50 gave the speaker an attentive hearing. The National Party did not know —nor, he believed, did ithe Government— the whole economies of the Murapara scheme because a full report had not yet been tabled in the House of Representatives, but it had to go on, said Mr Sullivan. With the exotic forests hearing maturity NewZealand should be in a position to compete with Canada in the export of pulp and paper. Mr Sullivan said the National Party, if elected, would continue to pay the subsidies to millowners for workers' overtime. If that were not done the people could not be housed as they would like to be housed. Mr Sullivan was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation.
