Mr Hcffman's Advice To Europe
"Desperately Difficult Road To Travel"
(Rec. 8.30 a.m.) London. Oct. "27
The Marshall Aid Administrator (Mr Paul Hoffman) said, today in Montreal that high productivity alone would not bring a durable European recovery. He called on Western Europe to achieve economic unification without undue delay. Only within the framework of economic unity could Europe become truly self-supporting,' Mr Hoffman said. He was speaking to. the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. He said that Europe had a long and desperately difficult road to travel, though she had already made a start by reducing some trade barriers.
It was in Europe's own interest to create a single market of 275,000,000 consumers. Mr Hoffman is returning from Montreal to New York. He will fly to Paris tomorrow. '
