N.Z. ENTRIES FOR EMPIRE GAMES

(P.A.) Auckland, today. Maximum entries have been made by New Zealand for the Empire Games to be held in Auckland in February. The secretary of the New Zealand Empire Games Association Mr H. Amos, of Wellington, yesterday notified the organising committee that a grand total of 257 individual entries would be made in the nine sports of the festival.

The New Zealand team is not to be formally announced until early in January, although selections in some sports have already been made. As various competitors are likely to compete in several events in a particular sport, the total number of individuals chosen to represent the Dominion will be substantially below the figure cited by Mr Amos.

So far, about 430 entries for events have been received from six countries. The preliminary entries close on Monday.
