Girls' Choir To Tour United States
Sang' Itself Into English Hearts Thirty years ago Mr Arthur Davies, an agricultural agent, of Luton, Bedfordshire, formed a Baptist church choir of 30 girls. Luton liked it. The neighbouring vilages got to hear of it. Luton Girls' Choii- thought it was becoming quite famous . . . Since then this choir of 100 amateur singers, aged between 11 and 23, has sung itself into the hearts of England, and its broadcasts and records have spread its fame around the world. And the other day Luton Girls' Choir knew it really was famous, lor on that same day three things happened: 1. Sol Hurog, the American impresario he managed Tetrazzini and Pavlova—now talent-hunting in England, signed them up for a sixweek spring tour of the United States. 2. The 8.8. C. gave them the two most important radio dates of their choral career—two half hour broadcasts. 3. They learned they were to star in a 40-minute film recalling their rise to fame. But the choir's 20 "under 14's" were left out of the excitement over the American trip. They were told they were too young to tour About once every two months the choir give a commercial concert to cover their expenses, otherwise all the takings go to charity, as will profits from the American tour
