Supplies Of Potatoes Were Assured
Minister's Advice To
Hospital Board
Tauranga Member Was Approached
An assurance that hospitals would receive supplies of potatoes in the event of the waterside dispute continuing in Auckland was received from the Minister of Supply, Mr McLagan, through the member for the district, Mr F. W.*Doidge, at the monthly meeting of the Tauranga Hospital Board. The secretary, Mr G. D. Stuart, stated that he had asked Mr Doidge to investigate the position, when it became obvious that supplies might be difficult to obtain, and read
a telegram from the member which stated that the request had been passed on to the Minister of Health (Miss Mabel Howard) and to Mr McLagan. The telegram stated that both Ministers had assured Mr Doidgc of their help and Mr McLagan had stated that supplies would be assured to hospitals.
The decision of Ihe waterside workers at Auckland to return to work, as announced in yesterday's Bay of Plenty Times, will mean that supplies of potatoes should return to normal within a few days. Had the decision not been reached, however, the question of supplies for hospitals might well have become a serious one.
