Honours Go To Matamata
Annual End-Of-Term Matches
Honours went to Matamata College in the annual Rugby and basketball matches played against Tauranga College during the last week of the term.
The results of the games were:— Rugby: First fifteens. Matamata defeated Tauranga 10-9; second fifteens, Tauranga defeated Matamata .12-8. Basketball. A teams, Matamata defeated Tauranga 23-20: B teams, Tauranga and Matamata drew 17-17. The football matches were both good games. In the senior game, the Matamata team was superior in taking advantage of. opportunities that offered and scpred five tries to three. The Matamata forwards were superior in loose rushes but the Tauranga pack more than held their own in the light work. The three tries by the home team were scored bv forwards, Stanton, Sorrenson and Hunt. There was a distinct weakness at the half back position in the home learn, and the inside backs allowed several thrusts by their opponents which resulted in scores. The threequarter line, however, played well and Noroa at fullback ' gave a greatly improved display. The second fifteen played excellent football to win 12-8.
