AOTEAROA II MAKES FIRST FLIGHT
TEST OF NEW TASMAN FLYING BOAT (P.A.) Auck'and, April 22. One of Tasman Empire Airways' new Solent flying-boats, the Aotearoa 11, made its first test flight last Wednesday. The company received this advice last night. The test pilot, Captain T. W. Brook-Smith, reported that his first impression of the aircraft's performance was "very favourable." In the next few weeks the aircraft will be subjected to tests under varying conditions, including a flight to Khartoum to test performances in the tropics. It will return to Belfast in time to be named on May 26 by Princess Elizabeth, who will be accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh. ___»_—____.
