BLACK MILLIPEDES IN NAPIER
ANNOYANCE CAUSED TO • RESIDENTS (P.A.) Napier, March 17. Black ■ millipedes, i a pest of uncertain origin, are rapidly increasing in Napier and annoying residents. Although they have not been known to cause damage, the wormlike injects crawl up the walls of houses, fall into food and generally play havoc in the home. The millipede is a sinister-looking inset from one to two inches in length and resembles a black worm with hundreds of minute, hair like legs. Specimens sent to the Cawthron Institute were identified as of the genus brachyulus, but nothing was known of their history or habits, or whether' they were of European or local origin. They appear usually in the spring and autumn.
