Tying up at the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club’s jetty shortly after 3.30 p.m.. on Wednesday, the Tauranga sloop Mata-atua completed an extensive cruise of almost three weeks in which time a number ol places on the coast as far north as Russell, were visited. Mr F. Gresham, Vice-Commodore of the Tauranga Yacht Club, was accompanied by Mrs Gresham, Messrs Tilby and Mead. When the yacht leit Tauranga on February 25 at 10.15 p.m. she had a good run of 22 hours to Whangarei’, where Saturday night was spent, and the journey was completed on Sunday, the yacht arriving in Russell at 4 p.m. For a large portion of the trip up the coast theparachute spinnaker was earned. After some time at Russell Mr Gresham sailed south to the Great Barrier Island, spending a few days there. On one occasion the main boom was broken when the yacht was becalmed in a short cross-sea. This was temporarily repaired and sufficed for the remainder of the C rui c e * At all times during the cruise the Mata-atua was in radio contact with the base station at Tauranga.
