BRITISH GOLF TEAM CAPTAIN

P. B. (“LADDIE”) LUCAS HAS A FINE WAR RECORD

MIDDLESEX CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE

Thirty-three-year-old Percy B. Lucas, D. 5.0., D.F.C., known as Laddie Lucas, appointed Captain of the British Walker Cup golf team, is a left-hander, a man of quick deci'sion, a tremendously fast walker over the course, and one of the longest drivers amongst Britain’s amateurs, states The Recorder (London).

The match against the U.S.A. will be at Winged Foot, New York, in August. With a fine war record. Lucas was particularly busy at Malta. He has a fine golf record and recently won the President's Putter at Rye, a knock-out competition for members of the Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Society—in itself a miniature amateur championship. Lucas, fair-haired and blue-eyed, is Conservative candidate for Brentford Middlesex, has made the stipulation that, should there be an election, he will not sail to the States with the team if the date interferes.

Strong and powerfully built, he has at his command a splendid short game. His handling of the mashie and the pitching niblick is to be envied.

In 1936 Lucas went to the U.S.A. with the Walker Cup team, but did not play.
