WITTIEST BISHOP DIES
The Bishop of Salisbury, Dr Geoffrey Lunt, whom a song publishing company once threatened to sue for his parody of “Mother Machree,” has died at Salisbury from heart failure. He was 63.
For the past month he had been unde]' doctor’s orders, but a few days before, his death he resumed his duties after a rest.
Dr Lunt was reputed to be one of the wittiest of churchmen. It was his sense of humour that caused the contretemps over the “Mother Machree” parody he published in his diocesan magazine in September. 1948.
