REFUSE COLLECTION CRITICISED
OBSTRUCTION ALLEGED IN DEVONPORT ROAD
CHAMBER TO MEET BOROUGH
ENGINEER
Refuse collection in Devenport Road was criticised by a member, Mr T. T. Gibson, at a meeting of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce this week. The road, he alleged, was congested practically every day of ihe week, especially Fridays, when, he said, the truck collecting garbage zig-zagged all over the road. Mr Gibson pointed out the unsavoury asoect of the system. Tfns cluttering the road' obstructed me torists, he said. He suggested that the collection be made earlier in the morning before the public was about. A suggestion that a concensus of opinion of shopkeepers in the street should be obtained, was put forward by Mr E. S. Hylton. Mr Dervan (president) understood that collections were made in the upper end of the road on Mondays, and the lower end on Tuesdays and Fridays. Could ft not be altered, he asked, to Monday and Thursday? Mr Hylton suggested that a deputation should ca 1 on the borough engineer to discuss the matter, and a resolution was passed that the president (Mr Dervan) and Mr F. N. Christian wait on the engineer, to point out the views of the chamber, and to report the result back to the next meeting.
