power poles placed in the centre of the footpaths along Maunganui Road were a danger to pedestrians at night. As the existing street lights were few and far between, it was stated, the chamber requested that these poles be temporarily lighted or removed irom the footpaths. . Mr Bongard pointed out that power lines had been put up before any footpaths had been constructed at Mount Maunganui and the footpaths had been built around ‘the poles. The question, he added, was really one between the board and the Mount Maunganui' Borough Council. The removal of the poles would have to be faced up to sometime, and if the street lighting scheme at Mount Maunganui went ahead the poles would have to be moved. All the poles concerned did not belong to the board, he added.
The board decided to reply to the chamber stating that it had noted the reouest, but pointing out that many difficulties had to be overcome and The work would be done when satisfactor- ' arrangements were made with the Mount Maunganui Ec rough Council
