Throughout the day ships of several countries have been in difficulties off Holland, which is having its worst gales of the winter. The crew of a Polish freighter which sank were rescued by a Dutch tug. Amohg a number of ships which have been driven ashore on the Dutch coast, were the 10,000 ton British ship City of Lucknow, which went aground. She was later refloated.
