Improving Hull Road

Deputation From Mount

Maunganui

Tauranga County Council’s

Decision

With a view to securing improvements to Hull Road at Mount Maunganui, a deputation waited on the monthly meeting of the Tauranga'County Council. In making the request, the deputation pointed out that settlement on the road was growing fast. Nine new buildings were going up and there were about 30 settlers on the road at present. The deputation stated that the road was in poor condition, and reference was made to the damage caused by heavy lorries loaded with sand which used Hull Road. The council was also asked if it had the power to give the residents fire protection. • The council pointed' out to the deputation that, through the administration of the Noxious Weeds Act, gorsa would be cleared and the firehazard eliminated. The county chairman (Mr H. B. Caoamagian) stated that the council received quite a sum in rates from the area and it was only fair that s certain proportion should be put back cn the road. There was, he considered, an obligation to spend some of the rates received. The council finally agreed, after the deputation had withdrawn, that in the meantime £2OO be spent out of next year’s estimates towards improvements to Hull Road.
