WELLINGTON SEASON SHOWS £14,000 TURNOVER

Rugby finance increased by record proportions i'n Wellington last season. Total income for the season has been estimated by the Wellington Rugby Union at £14,094, comnared with £9963 in 1947? The profit balance is stated to be £4568. Discussing a very fruitful season for 1948, members of the management committee of the union said everything had been in their favour. “I think more people are interested in football—that is the bare fact of it,” said Mr C. S. Hogg. A draft account of the union's receipts showed: Cup matches, £4354; representative matches,- £3440; season tickets, £202; final All, Black trial, £740 (total gate £2669); North South match, £1027 (total gate £3675). A report showed that in 1923 the union’s finances ended with a shaky not profit rf £76 and i'n 1924 a loss of £B3l. By 1944, with some defections. this total had risen to £2309 and but for a slump to a meagre £22 last year, it had continued to rise. There has been a significant decline in the union’s loan account from £15,446 in 1930 to £1625 in 1947.
