STYLES FOR AUTUMN AND WINTER ELEGANCE OF PARISIAN FASHIONS Styles for the autumn and winter of 1948-49 offer some dramatic changes. More slender skirls, often decidedly light skirts, are suggested by the (different designers: shoulders sti'll slope, but waistlines arc less tightly nipped. Loose luil-iength coats for colder days arc trimmed with leopard or panther and often entirely lined with fur or‘merely trimmed with a scarf at the neckline. The tunic line is popular m coats and dresses: alternately a short, loose swagger coal is in order. Interest is taken to the back in mere fullness or as a trimming strikes the right note, while materials are plain but glamorous, thanks to their quality. Fur trimmings are modest and restrained; all the chic is concentrated upon cut and colour. With black as the leader for formal occasions there is much insistence on gray, soft browns, bronze-greens and eff-white tones.
