FIFTY YEARS AGO
The following items of interest are taken from the Bay of Plenty Times of 50 years ago:— There was a considerable quantity of ripe fruit -shinped to Auckland by the Waiotahi last night, including many cases of ripe peaches.
Dr Thilenius left this morning for Karewa Island where he intends to remain for some time studying the habits of the tuatara lizard.
It is expected that a goodly number of people will arrive here from Waihi during the next few days and the mode of conveyance will be per bicycle for the majority. Waihi sports over a hundred bicycles now.
Offers were received from the Maungatapu Brass Band and the Judea Drum and Fife Band to play on the flagship at the annual Tauranga regatta. The former asked £2 and the latter £1 5s for the day.
