DEATH OF MR KINGI TAHIWI
PROMINENT MAORI LEADER
KEEN INTEREST IN RUGBY AFFAIRS
(P.A.) • Wellington. Doe. 20. Mr Kingi *Te Ahoaho Tahiwl. 0.8. E., one of the best-known Maori leaders of 'the Dominion, dfed in Wellington tonight. He was to have retired from the Maori Affairs Department, in which he had been employed- since 1915, at the end of this month. Mr Tahiwi was chairman of the executive of the Ngati Poneko Maori Association and also of both the Poneke tribal and executive committees. Born at Otaki in 1883. he .was a son of the late Rawira Rota Tahiwi, of Ngati Raukawa. and through his mother was related to the Ngati Whakaue section of Tc Arawa. When he came to Wellington in 1928 he became secretary of the Maori Rugby Advisory Board, and from 1927 until hi's death he was the board’s representative on the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union. He is survived by his widow.
