BAD WEATHER DELAYS PLANES

POOR CONDITIONS CLOSE TAURANGA AERODROME
Three internal flights and another to Norfolk Island were cancelled when most of the mam airfields in the North Island were closed to traffic by low cloud and poor visibility yesterday. At various times in the day Whenuapai, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Paraparaumu, Tauranga and Onerahi were closed and where flights were not cancelled they were delayed for up to three hours. Visibility at Tauranga aerodrome was 1000 yards and the sky was totally obscured by clouds at 500 feet. Conditions deteriorated to such an extent during the afternoon that :!or 30 minutes between 3.50 and 4.20, the field was closed. The planes from both Gisborne and Auckland were delayed about two hours, the former arriving in Tauranga at 5.11 and the latter at 4.51.
