GAMING POLL BILL
REMOVAL OF BOOKMAKERS' TELEPHONES •
DEBATE CONTINUED IN HOUSE
(P.A.) Wellington, Sept. 28. It was the job of a magistrate to say who was a bookmaker, but he (the Minister) as Postmaster-Gene-ral, had no power under the Act to' take telephones away from people indiscriminately because, some one alleged.that they were bookmakers, said" the Pcstmaster-General, Mr Hackett, during his speech in the
House today on the Second reading of the Gaming Poll Bill. Mr Hackett said the only way was for the police to take action and have the person tried. If the person was found guilty of bookmaking the telephones were always taken out.
