FEWER WET DAYS EXPERIENCED
WEATHER FOR MONTH OF JUNE Comparison With 1947 Increase In Hours Of Sunshine
Although there were fewer wet days last month, in comparison with June, 1947, the total rainfall for the 30 days was higher. According to observations made at the Tauranga aerodrome, wet days last month totalled 13, and the fall 7.14 inches, while in the obvious Jun" rain fell on 19 days, with a total of 4.79 inches.
The greater amount of rain received by the high country around Tauranga is indicated by the records for the Kaimai district where the total fall for the month was 10.25 inches. Rain fell there on ten days, the maximum fall being 2.12 inches on June 12.
Tauranga was also favourably placed last month in the hours of sunshine, the tally of 140.3, representing a noticeable increase on the total of 125.3 hours for June, 1947. Thirteen grass frosts were experienced last month, as against 11 in the corresponding period last year. Another occurrence of note was that there was one air frost last month, and three in June, 1947. The lowest reading was 21.8 degrees on June 9, as against 20.0 degrees the previous June.
Readings at the Tauranga Aerodrome also show that the lowest minimum temperature last month was 31.4 degrees, recorded on June 18, the highest maximum temperature 63.6 degrees on June 21, and the range 17.4 degrees. The mean temperature was 49.6 degrees.
