SEA TRIALS OF NEW GAS TURBINE ■- London, July 1. Successful full-speed reliability trials in the Solent today of the marine gas turbine; may open.a new era for all shipping. The jet engine, fitted in a naval gunboat, did more than 34 knots over .the measured distance.
When the navy estimates wore introduced in the House of Commons last March, it was stated that if the gas turbine succeeded, steamships would be as out of date as sailing ships today.
