iLss To Otumoetai

IOPOSAL MUST CONFORM TO DETAILS OF TOWN-PLANNING SCHEME

| Advice that he was fully aware of the desirability of prodding’ better access to the Otumoetai district, but clearly the location and design of the suggested bridge would require tonsiderable survey and study, was received by the Tauranga ijjounty Council, at its monthly meeting, from the Minister J Works, the Hon. R. Semple. “This must,” stated the Minister, “be such as to conform to the details of the town-planning scheme which, I 'understand, is in course of preparation by the local authoring in the immediate area. I “I feel that no further progress is possible until this plan has been finalised and has received the approval of the Jown Planning Board.”

cuitous access round an estuary of the Tauranga harbour, via the main Tauranga-Waihi Road. These people were seemingly anxious to have their area included in the Tauranga borough and considered that a direct bridge and causeway access across the mouth of the estuary, near the present railway viaduct, would be a deciding factor in urbanising their area. The council had agreed to forward this request for the inclusion of this work in the ten-year plan, and at the same time advised the Minister that the Local Government Commission would in October next consider the question of the advisability of the Otumoetai area being transferred to Tauranga borough jurisdiction.

The council pointed out that it had no recommendation to make as to priority in either of there cases.

The council deferred discussion of the Minister’s reply until after the hearing of the Local Government Commission.
